The New Orleans Saints are fresh off another frustrating performance. They lost to the 49ers in Week 12 in a bit of an embarrassing fashion.
New Orleans had multiple chances to take control of the game and never did. Ultimately, they fell by a score of 13-0, and their record sits at 4-8.
Their chances at the division get bleaker almost every single week – it seems.
Regardless, the Saints had plenty of opportunities to beat the 49ers. The defense played really well and held the 49ers on multiple red zone trips.
Forced turnovers on fourth down and field goals kept the New Orleans offense in the game. They just couldn't get it done when it mattered the most, though.
The Saints' entered the red zone five times. They scored zero points in those trips.
Alvin Kamara's fumble at the one-yard line was the most heartbreaking, and it seemed to finally take the remaining wind out of the Saints' sails.
The craziest aspects of it all is that the Saints could have kicked five field goals on those trips and won this game.
Of course, that's if Will Lutz made all five. He did miss one in the game from 48 yards. That was after a 50-yard, 12 play drives from the offense that took six minutes off the clock.
It was just another sloppy, underwhelming performance by the Saints that have become the norm under Dennis Allen. His defensive unit played well, but it wasn't enough.
Now, their biggest game of the season so far looms next week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
