The New Orleans Saints had a rollercoaster season last year. 2022 had many up's and down's, but their defense provided a lot of positives, especially in the second half of the season. Their secondary showed their strength in the back half of the year.

Alontae Taylor stepped up massively as a rookie, and Marshon Lattimore played arguably his best football from the past three seasons. Tyrann Mathieu took control of the secondary at the safety position, leading them back to elite play.

While turnovers were a struggle for the Saints in 2022, one major aspect of their defense wasn't lacking whatsoever. Their ability to prevent big plays was on full display. They allowed explosive plays on just over 8% of defensive snaps.

For the Saints, it's a major plus to build off of this season. Their defensive line play will assuredly be improved this year, so there will be less pressure on the back end. Limiting big plays from opposing passing games will be paramount again for New Orleans.
