The New Orleans Saints had their best offensive first half of the season today against the Bengals. Unfortunately, that was not enough for a win.

A head-scratching decision by the Saints in the final quarter costed them.

The Saints did not use Taysom Hill nearly enough during the most important time of the game.

Hill was efficient when he was used today.

That should come as no surprise because that has been the case all season. He even completed two important passes today.

Alas, Hill ran the ball just five times today for 39 yards. That is a total of seven touches for the Saints' utility weapon.

He got almost no playing time in the fourth quarter. That was when the Saints needed his impact the most. For whatever reason, they did not put Hill on the field.

On their final drive before the Bengals took the lead, New Orleans played way too conservatively.

Two predictable runs up the middle followed by an incompletion resulted in a three-and-out. Another surprise pass or downhill run from Hill could have gotten the first down they absolutely had to have in order to bleed the clock down.

The Saints got a blueprint for offensive success in the first half with how they deployed Hill and QB Andy Dalton.

That was clear. They ignored what they learned early on when it mattered the most. Now, New Orleans sits at 2-4.
