The New Orleans Saints took down the Tennessee Titans in Week 1.
Speaking of takedowns, there was a hard one during that heavyweight, gritty bout between two southern NFL teams. Titans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair hit Derek Carr hard after he threw a pass in the direction of eighty end Juwan Johnson.
Al-Shaair was flagged for the hit – the correct call. Now, he is paying the monetary price for the penalty with a fine from the NFL. Al-Shaair was fined $13,934 for his late hit on Carr.
There was contact to Carr's head on the hit, so this comes as no surprise.
That being said, the Saints QB and Titans LB shared a positive moment after the hit. Carr acknowledged that hits like that are 'a part of football.' Al-Shaair seemed appreciative of Carr's understanding. Carr was a bit shaken up right after the hit but remained in the game.
There was no intent from the linebacker, but the hit was still one that draws a flag in today's NFL.
The Saints will look to extend their season record to 2-0 against the Carolina Panthers on Monday night.
