The New Orleans Saints 2022 season is over, but the franchise is in a good spot to land some outstanding players to help the team get back into the postseason in 2023.

The Saints had a very up-and-down season but never could consistently play good football.

However, they have eight draft picks to work with, including one in every round beside the sixth.

Below is a list of the Saint's 2023 picks:

  • Round 1, Pick 29 (from DEN via MIA and SF)
  • Round 2, Pick 40 overall
  • Round 3, Pick 71 overall
  • Round 4, Pick 115 overall
  • Round 5, Pick 148 overall
  • Round 5, Pick 167 overall (From PHI)
  • Round 7, Pick 229 overall
  • Round 7, Pick 260 overall (projected compensatory pick)

Per Over the Cap, the Saints are expected to receive a net value compensatory pick in the seventh round. This is due to the Saints losing two players, Terron Armstead and Marcus Williams, to high-value contracts ($15.95M APY and $14M APY) while signing two players, Marcus Maye and Andy Dalton, for lower-value contracts ($7.5M APY and 4M APY).

The Saints do not own their first-round pick in 2023, as they traded it to the Philadelphia Eagles last year. The trade sent picks 16 and 19 in the 2022 draft for pick 18 in the 2022 draft and the Saint's 2023 first-round pick and 2024 second-round pick.

However, they were able to trade back in the first round when they traded the rights for head coach Sean Payton to the Denver Broncos in exchange for the 29th pick in this year's draft.

The Saints also acquired the Eagle's fifth-round pick last offseason in exchange for defensive back Chauncey Gardner-Johnson.

The Saints may also receive a sixth-round pick in the draft. We do not know if the Saints will be with this pick, as it was part of a trade package with the Houston Texans. In the trade, the Saints traded a conditional 2023 sixth-round pick and a 2022 third-round pick in exchange for cornerback Bradley Roby. The conditions of that sixth-round pick are not known yet.

The Saints have shown how one draft can turn around a franchise in the past. Hopefully, the 2023 draft does that for this team and breathes life into the organization going into 2023.
