The New Orleans Saints did their job in Week 17. They beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to survive in their quest for the postseason. 

Now, they turn their attention to the final week of the season. 

What do the Saints need to happen next weekend in order to make the postseason? There are two scenarios.

  • The simple scenario: 
    • Saints win vs. Atlanta + Buccaneers lose to Panthers
  • The complicated scenario
    • Saints win vs. Atlanta + Packers lose to Bears + Seahawks lose to Cardinals

In the second scenario. the outcome of the Tampa Bay game would not affect the Saints' playoff chances. In that scenario, they would get a wild card berth separate from the berth from winning their division. The Bucs win the NFC South with a win in Week 18.

The first scenario would lead to an NFC South title for New Orleans. They would host their wild card matchup.

If you're a Saints fan, you have two options in Week 18. Continue to complain about the inconsistencies under Dennis Allen this season. 

On the flip-side, you could just be content with the fact that New Orleans will play meaningful football for one more game – potentially, for the last time for many months. That's your decision.
