After their upset win against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17, the Saints needed some help to reach the postseason.

To have a chance at the NFC South crown, the Buccaneers had to lose to the Carolina Panthers. The Bucs squeaked out a victory in that game, so Tampa Bay won the division. That's two years in a row for the Buccaneers.

Therefore, the Saints needed a plethora of outcomes in order to get a wild card spot in the NFC.

It was quite a long shot. Unfortunately, one team costed them any opportunity at the postseason this week.

The Saints needed the Minnesota Vikings to beat the Green Bay Packers. Of course, that meant that fans had to root for one of their least favorite teams in Minnesota.

The Vikings did not show up for their game against the Packers and got blown out in Green Bay.

The final score was 41-17, but it wasn't even that close. The Vikings scored two garbage time touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

The Saints have a history with the Vikings in the playoffs. This outcome may just make them even more frustrated with Minnesota.

Both teams have suffered heartbreaking postseason losses to each other. Now, the Saints and their fans have another reason to dislike the Vikings.

Accordingly, that will conclude any postseason aspirations for the Saints. Their slow start to the season simply doomed New Orleans.

They have played much better ball over the last handful of games, but close losses really put them behind the eight-ball early in the year. Dennis Allen's team just fell short.
