Looking at 9 mock trade offers for Dexter Lawrence: Giants receive a first-round pick and more following star’s trade request
New York Giants star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence is requesting a trade. We asked our A to Z Sports staff what they would give up for him. More than one offer features a first-round pick.
It’s not often a defensive star like Dexter Lawrence requests a trade. But since that is the reality the New York Giants are facing now, we set out to explore what they could get in return should they deal him.
That’s why our crew at A to Z Sports sent mock trade offers to our NFC East editor, Mauricio Rodriguez. The response didn’t disappoint as more than one NFL team offered more than a first-round pick for Lawrence.
Below is a breakdown of each offer and a decision from the Giants’ side of things.
Packers offer rising WR and more
- Giants get: WR Dontayvion Wicks, DT Karl Brooks, 2026 2nd-round pick (No. 52), 2027 3rd-round pick
- Packers get: DT Dexter Lawrence
The Packers don’t have a first-round pick in each of the next two years after trading for Micah Parsons, which makes any type of deal extremely hard to pull off. In this case, trying to make things more enticing to the Giants, we add Wicks and Brooks as part of a package that also includes two Day 2 picks over the next two seasons.
Lawrence would be a perfect addition to what the Packers need, and while the investment is significant, $39.5 million over the next two years is a pretty reasonable amount to pay for an elite interior defender. – Wendell Ferreira
Jets and Giants make a Big Apple trade
- Giants get: 2026 second-round pick (No. 33)
- Jets get: DT Dexter Lawrence
The New York Jets have undergone some reconstruction along their defensive line this offseason, but a Dexter Lawrence acquisition could put the finishing touches on what the Jets hope to be an aggressive push for relevance.
Despite acquiring T’Vondre Sweat to be their nose tackle, the Jets are still searching for their interior disrupter after the Quinnen Williams trade. Dexter Lawrence is a massive human being who would both help the Jets defense at the point of attack, but create havoc as an interior presence. As much as New York wants to build for the future, Aaron Glenn knows his team has to show some life if he is to keep his job going into 2027. – Rob Gregson
Chargers make a strong push
- Giants get: 2026 second-round pick (No. 55), 2027 third-round pick, LB Junior Colson
- Chargers get: DT Dexter Lawrence
The Chargers lack star power and depth on the interior of their defensive line. Teair Tart played well last season and earned a new contract, but that shouldn’t stop the Bolts from adding a talent like Lawrence at the right price. Los Angeles is currently in a winning window where they need to make the most of the prime years of Justin Herbert’s career.
If they could pull off this sort of deal while keeping both their 2026 & 2027 first-round picks in the fold, it is a no brainer for Jim Harbaugh’s team. The Chargers are also top three in cap space currently, so there would be no hurdle in acquiring Lawrence on that end, either. It’s an enticing proposition for LA. – Adam Holt
Bills offer a first-rounder and more
- Giants get: 2026 first-round pick (No. 26 overall), WR Keon Coleman
- Bills get: DT Dexter Lawrence
Buffalo is in desperate need of a difference-maker on defense, specifically at the defensive tackle position, and Lawrence could come in and make an immediate impact. We’re just going to send over the first round pick from 2026, along with wide receiver Keon Coleman, because why not?
Buffalo only has around $12 million in available cap space, so the team would need to do some magic to make the math work. Buffalo would need to create around $6 million in cap space to acquire Lawrence’s 2026 salary before restructuring. It’s not easy, but it’s doable. Specifically, Buffalo could restructure the contract of offensive lineman Dion Dawkins to make it work, freeing up around $11 million in cap space just with that move alone. Lawrence is a one-man wrecking crew, playing in all 17 games for the Giants in 2025 with 31 combined tackles, eight quarterback hits, four passes defensed, one interception, and 0.5 sacks. While the production doesn’t jump off the box score, he would be an immediate difference-maker in Jim Leonhard’s new defense and a player Buffalo must have. – Adam Zientek
Another first-round offer from the Texans
- Giants get: 2026 first-round pick (No. 28 overall)
- Texans get: DT Dexter Lawrence
The Houston Texans have done a good job of overhauling the team to position themselves to take the best player available at the end of the first round this year. However, none of those players are likely going to be as good as Dexter Lawrence, who is arguably the best defensive tackle in the NFL. DT is a bit of a need as well with Tim Settle, Foley Fatukasi, and Mario Edwards all hitting free agency, and the Texans do need to improve in the middle.
The opportunity to add a game-changing talent like Lawrence should be a no-brainer. With 2026 potentially being the last year of a cheap deal for C.J. Stroud and the 38th pick in their back pocket, Houston should send the house and build one of the best defensive lines of all time. With Will Anderson Jr., Danielle Hunter, and Lawrence in the building, the Texans could be the scariest defense in the league. – AJ Schulte
Raiders give up a 2027 first and more
- Giants get: 2027 first-round pick, 2026 fourth-round pick (No. 104), and 2026 fourth-round pick (No. 134) and DE/DT Tyree Wilson
- Raiders get: DT Dexter Lawrence
The Las Vegas Raiders have a ton of draft capital, 11 picks to be exact. They have three fourth-round picks, and it’s already possible that they deal those to move up in the 2026 NFL Draft. However, if they could use that and the pick next year on getting an elite, top defensive tackle in the league, why not do it? You could pair him with Maxx Crosby to form one of the best defensive line duos in football.
Not to mention, Lawrence could definitely fit into the 3-4 scheme that Vegas wants to run. The Raiders would have to send a player like Wilson, who’s on an expiring deal but has potential, to free up $8 million in cap space for Lawrence and the rookie class coming in. – Justin Churchill
Bears give up a first plus a DT
- Giants get: 2026 first-round pick (No. 25 overall), DT Gervon Dexter Sr.
- Bears get: DT Dexter Lawrence
After pumping the breaks on a potential Maxx Crosby blockbuster deal, Dexter Lawrence is the kind of player the Chicago Bears should be more willing to acquire. Lawrence has proven himself as one of the top interior defensive linemen in the league and the positional value is always cheaper for a DT compared to a top EDGE. The price still starts with a first-round pick, in my opinion, but I don’t foresee New York landing multiple firsts like the Raiders nearly got for Crosby.
Even still, there’s going to be a lot of competition for a player like Lawrence around the league and the 25th overall pick won’t be enough. So, let’s throw Gervon Dexter Sr. into the package and give the Giants a young defensive tackle to replace Lawrence. Dexter isn’t the best scheme-fit in Chicago and recently changed his representation, a sign he knows he’ll be on the move eventually. For those concerned about trading the 25th overall pick, you’re not going to find the level of talent Lawrence can bring by adding a rookie the team could consider with that selection. – Kole Noble
Bengals offer 2027 first and more
- Giants get: 2026 third-round pick (No. 72), 2027 first-round pick, NT T.J. Slaton Jr.
- Bengals get: DT Dexter Lawrence, 2026 fifth-round pick (No. 145)
I love doing these for the Bengals because they would never give up two draft picks, let alone a future first-rounder, and a player to get any player in return. What I also know is Cincinnati does value the nose tackle position when the right player becomes available. Sam Adams was very nearly a Bengal two decades ago. Domata Peko was kept around for over a decade. DJ Reader was the club’s first major external free agent signing.
Lawrence is better than all of them and is still in the prime of his career. This would be an all-in move to get one of the best defensive linemen, regardless of position, and a sign that Cincy is not worried about the future with its own elite players thinking about winning in the now. – John Sheeran
Vikings get creative with a conditional offer
- Giants get: 2026 third-round pick (No. 82 overall), Conditional: Upgrades to second with either All-Pro selection or 10+ sacks, first-round pick if both are met.
- Vikings get: DT Dexter Lawrence, 2026 fourth-round pick (No. 105 overall)
Vikings send 82 and conditional third-round pick (upgrades to second with either All-Pro selection or 10.0+ sacks, first round pick with both) to the Giants for Dexter Lawrence and pick 105
This is a fascinating move for the Vikings to make. They have been interested in adding a player like Lawrence for some time, and bringing him in would bolster a defensive line that needs it. Here’s where things get tricky: compensation. Given their salary cap issues, the Vikings need to have multiple day two picks hit as either starters or serious depth players. With that said, making a trade gets tricky because you’ll have to send multiple selections to the Giants, along with absorb the contract and give him a raise. It will be difficult to make them both happen, but getting it done will be the tricy part.
Here’s why the Vikings offer makes sense: It gives them the same amount of picks in 2026, while giving the Giants massive upside in 2027, while also protecting the Vikings if he doesn’t live up to the hype. – Tyler Forness
The Giants’ decision is…
If I’m the Giants, I’m ruling out all offers that don’t include a first-round pick in 2026. John Harbaugh has said he intends to aim to win right away and if he can’t do it with Lawrence, he sure as heck won’t want to wait until 2027 to make up for it.
The Bills giving up No. 26 and Keon Coleman is the best offer. Coleman hasn’t lived up to the hype in Buffalo but at least the Giants get to line him up under a true WR1 like Malik Nabers.
The Giants shouldn’t part ways with Lawrence but if they do for financial reasons, this would be the best offer from our exercise.
