Giants LT Andrew Thomas reveals the one Broncos strength New York must be ready for to win in Week 7
New York Giants offensive tackle Andrew Thomas revealed what he and the rest of the offensive line must prepare for against the Denver Broncos.
The New York Giants are aiming to string back-to-back victories together in Week 7, as they travel to Denver to face the Broncos.
Following their exhilarating win on Thursday Night Football, over the Philadelphia Eagles, the Giants are riding high. The mentality from the fan base is that this franchise can capably upset teams like the Broncos if they play their physical brand of football. However, they’ll need to be effectively prepared to counter an elite Denver defense this week.
Star left tackle Andrew Thomas shared today that the Giants need to be ready for chaos.
“Obviously, one of the most talented defenses in the league,” Thomas told reporters, “They have a lot of guys up front that create havoc, and they play really well in the back end as well. I think their coordinator puts them in great positions to make plays.”
Giants prepare to face Broncos’ elite defense
The Denver Broncos are on an elite stretch this season with how they’re attacking opposing quarterbacks. So far, they’ve registered an NFL-best 30 sacks. They’ve also generated 105 quarterback pressures, which is second best in the league behind the Seattle Seahawks, who have 106.
Thomas was direct in acknowledging that the toughest pass rush unit in the NFL will challenge the Giants’ offensive line. He revealed how they must prepare for the matchup.
“For us up front, we just got to trust our technique,” Thomas stated, “It’s a tough environment to play in. So, communication is going to be important when in early downs to avoid some of those third-and-long situations. That’s our mindset.”
Thomas will be tasked with holding off the most productive pass rusher in the NFL for the Broncos in Nik Bonitto. Through six games, Bonitto leads the NFL with eight sacks. He also has a whopping 34 pressures on 130 pass rush reps.
With the upcoming brutal battle, Thomas dug into what he knows makes Bonitto so dangerous.
“I would say first his explosiveness. He does a really good job of getting off the ball,” Thomas told the media, “He has good bend at the top of the rush, but a lot of speed guys, normally they don’t have great power. But what makes him unique is he can power rush as well. So, you have to be ready for both.”
While facing Bonitto would be tough for most offensive tackles, it should be another chance for Thomas to flex why he’s a top left tackle in the league. One could even argue that it should be Bonitto who should be worried in this game, considering he’s allowed no sacks and only two pressures since returning from injury.
If Thomas can help elevate his teammates, there is a legit shot for the Giants to upset Denver and continue their streak as giant killers.
