Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley was on a mission during his first ever game against his former team, the New York Giants. The former No. 2 overall pick witnessed his jersey being burned going into the game and was consistently booed by fans throughout the matchup.
None of that mattered to him. He quieted the boos little by little, racking up a whopping 176 rushing yards and three total touchdowns to fuel the Eagles en route to a 28-3 win over the team that let him walk in free agency earlier this year.
While everyone watching the game will forever remember that Barkley completely dominated his "Revenge Game" at MetLife Stadium, Giants fans should know the former New York star actually spared them some mercy.
During the final moments of the game, Barkley was approached on the bench by Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni, who was asking him if he wanted to set a new career high for rushing yards in a single game. Barkley needed 13 more to beat his own previous record, which he set as a Giant in 2019 against Washington.
Barkley, instead of chasing the unique bragging rights he could've had had he wanted to, told Sirianni he was good while telling him: "I'd rather see the young boys eat!"
Sirianni even insisted that he'd let him keep playing if he wanted to set a new career high and even then, Barkley passed. His decision was based on his teammates and not the fact that he could stick it to the Giants even more than he already had. For New York fans, it was a reminder of how much of a class act the star the front office let out the front door is.
The Barkley decision from earlier in the offseason has sure backfired so far as the Giants fall to 2-5 through Week 7 and one of their NFC East foes keeps celebrating the signing on a weekly basis.
