It's no secret that the situation between the New York Giants and star running back Saquon Barkley has been a bit bumpy this offseason. Today marked the final day for the two sides to get a long-term deal done. That didn't occur, so Barkley will be under the franchise tag this year for New York. A report remerged last week that Barkley was not looking to play under the tag for this season. It is unknown whether or not he will hold out any this year.

Regardless, his situation mimicked many from the past few seasons. This offseason alone, three top ten running backs were franchise tagged and did not receive a long-term deal. They were the only three players in the league to encounter that situation. The other two were Las Vegas Raiders RB Josh Jacobs and Dallas Cowboys RB Tony Pollard. Jacobs led the NFL in rushing last year, and Pollard became a massive piece for the Cowboys offense.

Tennessee Titans star RB Derrick Henry is playing on an extension, but he made his frustrations with the NFL clear on Twitter. He thinks that RBs, like Saquon, are getting the short end of the stick.

Henry makes fair points. These players are human, and they are working hard to make an impact and prove themselves on the field. The NFL is a business, but there is clearly frustration with the running back market. Barkley is yet another example of that.
