Jets star Breece Hall speaks out after fan harassed him at airport

The term “fan” is short for fanatic. It’s a shame that people too often have to prove just how fanatic they are.
Jets star running back Breece Hall was confronted by an angry autograph seeker at Newark Airport last Sunday as he returned home from Super Bowl week in Vegas.
In a scary encounter, the hostile autograph seeker got aggressive with Breece. The situation got so tense that legendary New York Giants linebacker Carl Banks, who happened to be on the same flight as Hall, intervened, putting his body between Hall & the fan.
Witnesses, including Carl, say Breece was minding his own business and guy was harassing his group. That is when the video picks up.
“So, be a man. If you’re gonna slap me, slap me!” the fan can be heard yelling at Hall, 22.
Banks, 61, then intervened, the former linebacker putting his 6-foot-4 frame in between Hall and the fan to de-escalate the situation.
The fan kept jabbing at Hall, who, despite the altercation, seemed to remain calm. As the man finally walked away from Hall and Banks, he let out a final insult yelling, “Get the f–k out of here, p–sy!”
Breece later addressed what happened on his X (formally twitter) account.
When asked why he stepped in to help Hall, Banks told TMZ he didn’t want to stand by and let the star get messed with.
Both were seen at the Stadium Series Rangers vs. Islanders matchup on Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium.
I personally have spoken to Breece Hall on a few occasions and know him to be a polite and quiet man. There is no way he provoked this guy into the aggravated tirade that ensued.
What is this entitlement that fans think they have over athletes and other celebrities to expect and demand things from them? What void is there is a person’s life that demanding the attention and a signature, or a picture from someone somehow validates their existence?
I’m not saying you can’t ask for an autograph or a selfie, I just don’t think it should be somehow insulting if the person choses to pass on obliging your request. We aren’t talking about some seven-year-old starry-eyed child looking to meet his hero, but a grown man seeking attention.
Look at what happened recently with Travis Kelce, who was forced to move out of his home because of Taylor Swift fans camping out hoping to catch a glimpse of her. How does that better your life? You saw a famous person walk into a house with a cup of coffee and bagel and that was worth camping out for two days in the elements?
Let people, including athletes and celebrities live their lives. If you run into one, treat them like a person, because that’s what they are. They owe you nothing except the respect you show them.
Jets Offseason Road Map: Three players to avoid in free agency
After another heartbreaking year and extending their North American sports leading playoff drought to 13 seasons, it’s time for the Jets to focus on the offseason. The Jets won’t be looking at any major changes to the coaching staff, so they will be focused solely on the draft and NFL free agency to finally end […]
