The New York Giants have been a logical landing spot for free-agent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. They need upside at the position, and Hopkins is a three-time All Pro player. His price probably won't be egregious at his age, either.
The Giants were also connected to Hopkins earlier this offseason when Arizona was shopping their star wideout. Nothing came of that. Hopkins had had enough, and Arizona moved on for cap space in the future.
One notable source doesn't think that the Giants (or New York Jets) should go after Hopkins, though. Former NFL MVP Boomer Esiason doesn't believe that Hopkins would be a smart addition.
“I just don’t see it for either one of these two teams here in New York,” Esiason said on WFAN, "His reputation, it’s not great, Everybody knows that he’s a great athlete and great player, but the work ethic and commitment to practice and all that other stuff is really where the big question marks reside.”
Esiason doesn't think adding Hopkins would be smart for the team's locker room or future. It's an intriguing take because Hopkins would be the clear-cut top WR on the Giants depth chart – even after adding tight end Darren Waller. His talent is clear. The being said, the Giants cannot compromise their culture by adding the wide receiver.
The Giants are limited when it comes to cap space, so none of that may matter, though. Keep an eye on the situation for New York and Hopkins, regardless.
