The New York Giants not only dropped its season opener to the Dallas Cowboys but they were also hit with some injuries in the process. It's not exactly the way you want to kickoff a season with playoff aspirations.

Among those banged up from the week one action is star left tackle Andrew Thomas. Thomas has blossomed into one of the premier tackles in the NFL, and his availability is much-needed for the Giants.

Thomas tweaked his hamstring during the blocked field goal that was returned for a touchdown by the Cowboys. He looked to be limited for the rest of the game, especially as Dallas sent its relentless pass rush all game long.

As a result, Thomas has been held out of practice for much of this week. New York can ill-afford any setbacks ahead of the team's matchup with the Arizona Cardinals before a difficult slate of games on the horizon.

Fortunately, Thomas did return to the practice field on Thursday. Even in a limited capacity, it is a positive development for the blindside blocker to be back out and preparing for Sunday's game.

Daboll referred to Thomas as a "tough guy" and how he wanted to test out his hamstring in practice on Thursday. That speaks to the level of competitor that Thomas is, especially coming after week one's loss.

But the flip side is that hamstring injuries can be tricky. It's a long season, so the Giants must decide if it's worth pushing Thomas to play this week with a short week coming up next week as New York takes on the San Francisco 49ers next Thurdsay.

All of that said, the Giants already have its back against the wall. Therefore, Thomas playing would obviously be better than if he doesn't. The good news is that he is back practicing.
