The New York Giants approached the 2022 season under the guise of a rebuild.

A team with a brand new regime, cap problems, and more questions than answers on the roster, no one would have batted an eye at another losing season.

Yet the team went all the way to the divisional round of the playoffs upsetting the Minnesota Vikings. But Brian Daboll doesn't want to hear about outperforming expectations anymore, he's setting a new standard.

At the league's annual owner's meetings in Phoenix, Daboll was asked a variety of questions surrounding the past, present, and future of Giants football.

The 2022 coach of the year, Daboll was candid in his answers, but also self-deprecating once or twice.

Daboll and Joe Schoen have already transformed the culture inside the locker room. Trading away recent draft picks, parting ways with big-name free agents, and paying franchise pieces.

But now, they are letting the world in on the culture change that has already occurred in the big apple.

Gone are the days of looking to just compete and maybe sneak into the playoffs, the mindset is clear, and the standards are set.

It won't be easy to climb the mountain that Daboll and Schoen are currently scaling, with the Eagles and Cowboys returning most of their key contributors, keeping the NFC East competitive in 2023.

And there are still holes on the roster that if not addressed, could be a potential downfall of the team.

But the draft is fast approaching and the Daboll-Schoen tandem showed promise in their first draft class last season, giving Giants fans reason to feel confident about the upcoming season.

Whether the media views the Giants as real contenders won't matter to Daboll and anyone else in that locker room.

His words, language, and demeanor prove they have a bone to pick with the NFL and are coming to take names in 2023.

And I would imagine that's just the way they want it.
