The New York Giants could use another linebacker.

They already added Bobby Okereke to lead their LB core for the foreseeable future. Behind him, the depth is a bit questionable. Jarrad Davis is the sole veteran that could see a fair amount of snaps on defense behind him.

That being said, the Giants cannot panic when it comes to the linebacker position.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are reportedly in bumpy waters with linebacker Devin White. White is an ultra-athletic LB that brings energy to a defense, but he is expecting a big-time contract.

His play doesn't align with being paid as a top 5-10 LB in the NFL, but he could get that type of pay.

The problem with White is that while he is incredibly talented, he is also incredibly inconsistent. A lot of this comes is due to the fact that he always plays at 100 miles per hour. While that is a big reason for his production, it's also a big reason why the Buccaneers should be hesitant to extend him pre-2024.

Said aggressiveness often leads to White over-pursuing -or simply missing out on- plays that he should make. It's also a big reason for his struggles in coverage: White doesn't have the patience to let things develop in front of him and instead chooses to force his will on every single snap… — Evan Winter, A to Z Sports

Adam Schefter says that the Bucs do not want to trade the linebacker, but they may not have a choice at some point. Only time will tell.

For New York, White should not be an option.

The Giants don't have the type of cap room to give White the type of contract he is looking for right now.

Not to mention, the Giants would have to trade compensation to the Bucs in order to get White. It wouldn't be the smartest decision for New York.

Drafting another linebacker on day two of this year's NFL draft makes a lot more sense for the Giants. Keep an eye out for them to potentially add another veteran free agent LB after the draft, too.
