The New York Giants are adding fuel to the fire when it comes to Daniel Jones.

According to The Athletic's Dan Duggan, Jones was spotted in a red scout team jersey during practice on Thursday, and was lined up at safety.

After the Giants' loss to the Carolina Panthers, New York made the decision to bench Jones as the stating quarterback. With a 2-8 record, they decided to turn to Tommy DeVito instead.

But to go from the starter to playing scout team safety is a huge demotion, and feels like an attempt to just embarrass him.

As Dianna Russini said, "Daniel Jones playing safety for the Giants scout team. That’s a very expensive scout player."

A to Z Sports' Wendell Ferreira summed up the quarterback situation in New York perfectly.

Last year, the Giants gave Daniel Jones a four-year, $160 million extension. But there are no fully guarantees left — they were the signing bonus, the 2023 base salary, and the 2024 base salary. The Giants can, and probably will, easily move on from the deal next offseason. On the fifth day of the league 2025 year in March, $12 million of his salary would become guaranteed to motivate an early decision, and the release is the most likely outcome.

However, $23 million of Jones' $30.5 million salary in 2025 are injury guaranteed at signing. It means that if Daniel Jones gets hurt over the final few weeks of the season and can't pass a physical by March, the Giants will have to keep his contract for next season.

Maybe Daniel Jones is better than Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito. But with eight touchdowns, seven interceptions, and a 79.4 passer rating in 2024, he's certainly not good enough to justify the risk of putting the franchise's future in danger.

Along with DeVito on the roster, the team also have Drew Lock, who will serve as the backup. And then on Tuesday, they signed Tim Boyle to the practice squad.

"That's a question that I might still have for myself. It was expressed to me that I was going to be the 2. Interesting situation," Lock pointed out on Wednesday. "Not much I can really say about it besides I'm gonna be here for him (DeVito) and we are still communicating, still very good friends, believe it or not."

It's okay if the Giants wanted to move on from Jones, but having him playing safety on scout team is a step too far. The ultimate sign of disrespect.
