One of the better corners in the league has officially ended his tenure with the Eagles and is set to be a free agent.

Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Eagles will be releasing Darius Slay at the start of the league year, which begins today (March 15th) at 4:00 p.m

Slay is a 32-year-old veteran, but he has yet to show a decline in play, parlaying his success from Detroit into consecutive Pro Bowl seasons with the Eagles.

Playing a full 17 games in 2022, Slay recorded three interceptions, 14 pass breakups, and 55 tackles.

Slay was heading into the last year of his contract with only void years remaining from 2024 on.

He has no guaranteed money left on his deal and (Per Mike Garafolo of NFL Media) will be designated as a post-June 1st release to make the dead money hit more manageable for Philly.

So while Slay obviously wants a new deal and is towards the back of his prime given his position, the Giants should at least make the call.

A two-year deal with fair guarantees would be more than suitable for a player of Slay's caliber.

The above video was probably the best showing any corner had against Justin Jefferson last season.

A receiver that has as many Pro Bowls as accrued seasons and was first-team All-Pro last year, many (myself included) view Jefferson as the best wideout in the league.

The agility, change of direction, and long speed are all on display and point to a player who can still compete at the summit of the sport.

Obviously, the price has to be right, but with the current deficiencies that plague the corner position, Slay would elevate the room off the field as well.

His knowledge of coverages and offensive tendencies are some of the best in the sport and have been a catalyst to his continued success.

I'm sure I speak for the majority of Giants fans when I say it's a sigh of relief he's no longer an Eagle.

Let's see New York make the most of free agency and turn a familiar foe, into a friend.
