The New York Giants made a pair of exciting, flashy additions this offseason in hopes of taking the offense to the next level. Which includes trading for Pro Bowl tight end Darren Waller and drafting former Tennessee wide receiver Jalin Hyatt.
However, there is a chance that the Giants won't get a full look at their new weapons in week one against the Dallas Cowboys. Because Waller was placed on the injury report on Friday, making him questionable for the season opener.
Waller is dealing with a hamstring injury that has put his status for Sunday Night Football in at least a little bit of doubt. ESPN insider Adam Schefter was among the many to report the development.
With that said, Waller was able to practice during the open media session. And according to who was there, the tight end was moving well, suggesting that he'll be ready to go for the season opener.
Still, a hamstring issue is nothing to gloss over. Giants insider Jordan Raanan reported that the injury likely came late in the week, which has resulted in Waller popping up on the report.
Even if Waller does suit up and play – which seems to be the expectation – it is still a development worth paying attention to. New York doesn't have a ton of proven pass catchers outside of Waller. And that would put even more of the focus on running back Saquon Barkley.
The Giants can ill-afford Waller to be a non-factor against the Cowboys. Daniel Jones will be looking to get the ball out to him often as Dallas defends him with the likes of Jayron Kearse and company.
Darren Waller will likely play, but how impactful will he actually be? That will be one of the bigger storylines to keep tabs on once the ball is kicked off under the lights on Sunday evening.
Giants could have major advantage versus the Cowboys
The New York Giants could have a major advantage against the Dallas Cowboys thanks to a notable injury up front.
