The New York Giants clearly made improvements last season.
No one expected the team to pick up a playoff win, and quarterback Daniel Jones made legitimate steps forward. Accordingly, the locked him up long-term.
Head coach Brian Daboll has received plenty of praise so far – for good reason.
That being said, Giants President John Mara has warned Daboll about the pressure of coaching in New York's market.
Giants’ President John Mara told SiriusXM NFL Radio that his HC Brian Daboll is a rockstar – but it comes with trappings. “We kid him, right now he’s Bono walking around New York City,” Mara said. “But as I’ve told him, in this business, it doesn’t take long to go from Bono to Bozo.” – Adam Schefter
The statements by Mara make sense, too.
Daboll seemingly has blossomed in New York as their HC, but he cannot take the foot off the gas pedal. The team must continue to show signs of improvement in coming seasons if he wants to keep his reputation at a high level.
Winning coach of the year in your first season on the job is a heckuva start, though. Daboll has lifted the expectations in New York immediately.
Things are looking up for the Giants for the first time in quite a while.
Daboll deserves a lot of credit for that, and the front office knows that as well.
