Giants have a glaring weakness that is setting the team back

It was not the way that the New York Giants envisioned beginning the 2023 NFL season. Not in the fashion that the Giants were outplayed by the rival Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football.
"It's embarrassing, but it's over with now. We have to put that one to rest," said safety Xavier McKinney. "It happened. So obviously you have to embrace it a little bit. You have to understand, 'Where do you go from here?' That's what it is for us now."
Therefore, it's back to the drawing board for head coach Brian Daboll and the rest of the staff. New York has zero time to waste with matchups against the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers coming up.
But the main objective on the to-do list for Daboll and the Giants is figuring out the offensive line. New York was completely overwhelmed by the Cowboys' front, as Dallas practically lived in the backfield all night long.
Sure, Dallas is going to do that to plenty of teams this season. Especially with Micah Parsons flying around and Dan Quinn calling the defense. With that said, it was the latest in what has been a trend for the Giants.
In fact, New York has been near the bottom of the entire league in pass-block win-rate in five of the last six season. The only exception was 2019, when the Giants were still outside the top-10 in the league in that category.
New York failed to protect quarterback Daniel Jones against the Cowboys pass rushers, resulting in turnovers and mistakes. It was an all-around bad performance, especially by those up front.
“We definitely didn’t shoulder our responsibility," offensive lineman Evan Neal explained. "Definitely didn’t go out and play our best game. Definitely didn’t go out there and execute. That was the result.”
The reality of the matter is that the Giants did not belong on the same field as the Cowboys. And until the offensive line can be fixed in a meaningful matter, it could be more of the same.
