It looks like the New York Giants are going to leave one of the best-known free agents stood up this week.
Former Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr was expected to visit the Giants following a report from Josina Anderson citing the player as the direct source.
However, on Wednesday, Schoen tossed reporters a curveball when he said the visit wouldn't take place after all. His motive being the Giants wanted a better look at their young linebackers, Darrian Beavers and Micah McFadden. Both of whom are battling for a starting position.
This is the latest development on what has been a wild slew of events for Barr in free agency. Let's recap his last couple of days:
- On Tuesday, ESPN's Dianna Russini reported the New Orleans Saints "were expected to sign" Barr and running back Kareem Hunt.
- Anthony Barr left New Orleans without a deal, however, as reported by Mike Garafolo from NFL Network.
- Barr was then reportedly scheduled to visit the New York Giants, per Josina Anderson (CBS).
- Giants general manager Joe Schoen told reporters that the visit wouldn't take place, citing a desire to get a better look at the younger linebackers instead.
Without any further details, it's difficult to figure out what's leading to so many twists and turns in Barr's pursuit of a new NFL team. The veteran started 10 games for the division-rival Cowboys last year after spending eight years in Minnesota.
For a moment, it looked like the Giants could be his team for his tenth season in the league. Until something changes, one has to wonder if he'll find one at all.
