Giants GM gives fans an off-season update that they will love
Joe Schoen is trying to excite the Giants fanbase.
In the NFL, front office members hold information close to the vest. They don't want other teams to know their next move. For the New York Giants, they will do the same, but their general manager is giving their fan base plenty to look forward to during this off-season.
N.Y. will have the cap space to make legitimate additions during the off-season. The biggest question remains: Will they?
Only time will tell, but fans should be ecstatic right now.
Giants GM Joe Schoen believes that the team will be heavy spenders during free agency.
There certainly won't be any penny-pinching when it comes to their moves during this off-season.
"I'll give you a good example," Schoen said on Wednesday. "We were just talking about a player. I won't name the position or anything. We were like, 'Yeah, we're guessing his market might be $2.5 (million),' and I was like, 'We can afford that. It's only $2.5 (million). We can actually afford it.' We're not shopping for minimum players anymore. So, even players like that that can be really good depth players will make us that much better.
"So, just having the flexibility now to be creative, go get players at maybe a little bit higher value, but also being able to sign, whether it's tier three players, two, one, however you do it. We can map it out, and there are players that we can go procure now that maybe we weren't in the past."
This should be music to the ears of Giants fans right now.
The team needs additional depth on every level of their defense as well as impact starters in the secondary.
On offense, adding a top-line wide receiver makes so much sense for the Giants, too.
Along the offensive line, New York could use at least one impact starter and multiple depth pieces. Don't forget that tight end is still a need as well.
It is going to be a busy off-season for the Giants, but they are going to be aggressive.
