New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll made a tough but critical decision on Thursday.
NFL head coaches love getting on the practice field as often as possible. That time with their team — especially early in the summer — is viewed as an important opportunity to build team chemistry ahead of a new season.
The Giants, however, will have fewer OTA sessions this week than they originally anticipated.
On Thursday, Daboll made the decision to cancel the Giants' remaining OTAs this week due to the poor air quality in New York that's the result of ongoing wildfires in Canada.
It's been so bad in New York that scenes from Manhattan make the city look like a dystopian scene from an apocalyptic thriller (or like a city was put on Mars).
The Giants planned to move OTAs indoors on Thursday. But the air quality inside the practice bubble was so poor that Daboll decided it wasn't worth the risk.
That's a good call by Daboll and it shows the players how much he truly cares about their well-being. The Giants might not be able to work on their on-field chemistry the rest of this week, but chemistry was built on Thursday nonetheless.
