The latest Giants injury news is devastating for New York’s already struggling offense heading into Week 4
The New York Giants are losing a key offensive piece to an injury that will significantly hurt them heading into Week 4 against the Chargers
The New York Giants’ loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football was unbelievably frustrating for a multitude of reasons. Most of the issues stemmed from the same offensive inconsistencies that have plagued the franchise under Brian Daboll.
Now it appears that, amid their struggles to find an identity, they’ll be without one of their best playmakers. Per ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, the Giants are losing running back Tyrone Tracy to a shoulder injury.
Giants RB Tyrone Tracy to miss time
The Giants’ run game had a tremendous start against the Chiefs with an explosive first drive. The momentum they were building on the ground was quickly shut down when Tracy was planted on the sideline by two Chiefs defenders.
Tracy was slow to get up and did not return to the game. His departure from the loss opened the door for rookie running back Cam Skattebo’s 121-yard scrimmage day, in which he registered his second touchdown of the year.
Losing Tracy is a significant loss; he emerged last year as a promising offensive weapon. In 2024, he finished the season with 839 rushing yards, 284 receiving yards, and six total touchdowns.
Despite a quality rookie season, Tracy was off to a slow start that had Giants fans confused. Up until his injury, he had only rushed for 68 yards on 22 attempts and was often used as a kick returner.
Tracy’s injury now clears a path for the rookie RB Cam Skattebo to have an impactful first year in the NFL. As soon as Tracy left the game, Skattebo ripped off several hard runs and long receptions against the Chiefs. His physical running style that captivated football fans during the College Football Playoff while he was at Arizona State began to leak out.
While it will be exciting for Giants fans to get more exposure to Skattebo, losing an explosive rusher like Tracy will significantly hurt this offense. The Giants’ run game was struggling but showed signs of progress. The two-headed monster of Skattebo barrelling through defenders, and Tracy swiftly evading them, had a lot of potential.
Hopefully, Tracy can return sooner rather than later before the season ends.
