He would have been a nice addition.

A player many regarded as one of the better receivers in the free agency pool is no longer an option for the New York Giants.

Juju Smith-Schuster has officially announced his intention to sign with the New England Patriots.

The 26-year-old veteran is coming off a Super Bowl-winning season that saw him catch 78 passes for 933 yards and three touchdowns.

More of a between-the-hashes type of receiver, Juju isn't known for his spectacular grabs or game-changing speed, but he embodies the chain mover role.

Providing quarterbacks with trustworthy hands and a presence over the middle of the field, he is the ultimate security blanket.

Following the departure of another free-agent wide receiver in Jakobi Meyers, New England had their own void to fill and has done so.

So in a class that was underwhelming to begin with, the top pass catchers seem to be going everywhere but New York.

Perhaps yesterday's earth-shattering trade for Darren Waller will satiate the hunger that Giants fans have for dynamic players.

Or maybe that was just the appetizer, with the main course coming in April's draft.
