The New York Giants pulled off a massive trade on Monday ahead of Tuesday's NFL trade deadline. Per NFL Network, they're sending defensive lineman Leonard Williams to the Seattle Seahawks.

Giants fans might perceive the move as a major loss, which is certainly understandable given the caliber of player that Williams is. But it's all about compensation and boy, oh boy, did the Giants get a fair price.

Per Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, the Seahawks are sending a 2024 second-round draft pick and a 2025 fifth-round draft pick. Talk about maximizing value by the Giants.

As much as it pains Giants fans to admit it, the season is virtually over at 2-6 in a division where both the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles are a combined 12-3.

It's safe to say the Giants would've had a tough time convincing Williams to stick around unless they were willing to break the bank. Williams is set to become a free agent in 2024 and if he was seeking to land with a winning franchise, New York would've been a risky bet.

In other words, the Giants were never going to get better value from Williams than now.

Additionally, adding a second-rounder for next year could be significant ammo to potentially move up in the 2024 NFL Draft. If the season ended today, the Giants would be picking fourth overall. Two second-rounders could be enough to move up to secure their preferred prospect, which could likely be a quarterback as Daniel Jones' future looks very uncertain.

Even if they don't ultimately trade up for a quarterback, the Giants need plenty of help. A second-rounder can get you an important contributor even as a rookie.
