Will the Giants play the starters?

Highly unlikely. Giants head coach Brian Daboll usually avoids playing starters when games carry little to no meaning (cough, cough, Week 18). Based on his history, expect mostly backups against the Lions. That being said, the Giants have a ton of spots still being battled for so we'll see some big names suit up.

Speaking of…

Does John Michael Schmitz get the start?

The rookie center has been making a ton of noise in training camp and working a lot with the ones. He's likely to start tomorrow night and will be one of the main events of the game. So far, Michael Schmitz makes nothing out of getting reps with the starters. But for Giants fans concerned about who'll protect QB Daniel Jones, it's exciting.

"I mean we are just a couple of practices into fall camp," Michael Schmitz told reporters last week. "Right now, my main focus is just to continue to keep getting better each and every day and gain that trust with that O-line room and that offense to just prove that I can be out there, and I can make the calls and just be urgent with it."

4 Players to watch

  • WR Jalin Hyatt: Where else could you start, really? The rookie wide receiver was disrespected by the entire NFL when he fell all the way down to the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He's been having a strong camp and we'll get to see him work for the first time as a Giant on Friday.
  • CB Tre Hawkins III: The man has done nothing but climb up the depth chart since the start of training camp with big play after big play. Although he's gotten reps with the first team, Hawkins has yet to secure his spot on the starting lineup. A strong preseason showing can change that.
  •  LBs Darrian Beavers & Micah McFadden: The Giants canceled a free agent's visit with the intention of seeing more from their young linebackers. This competition has no leader and it'll be settler largely with big performances in the games.
