The New York Giants are one of the worst teams in football. Ahead of the Sunday and Monday slate of action in Week 13, they own the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Their defensive issues have played a role in that overall downturn for the G-Men.
Giants' interception woes
On Thanksgiving, the Giants were clearly feeling giving.
They gave up a few downfield shots to Cowboys backup quarterback Cooper Rush. A couple of them were debilitating blows in the second half. Ultimately, New York fell to the Dallas Cowboys, 27-20 in a game where the score was closer than the actual battle was.
With the struggle, the Giants made NFL history that they surely wanted to avoid in 2024 – and every year.
New York failed to record an interception. It was their 11th consecutive game without one, and that set the NFL's all-time mark for such a horrific streak. Their last interception was in Week 1(!).
Even after pouring in plenty of draft capital for their secondary over the past three years, it has not shown up. Cornerback Deonte Banks has been incredibly inconsistent, even getting benched at times as a forearm first round selection.
Not to mention, their CB depth is among the worst rooms in all of football. They have very little proven talent at that spot for their defense that boasts a great defensive line when healthy.
At safety, Tyler Nubin has made some key plays as a rookie, but the other players at that position have not shown up on a weekly basis.
Overall, the back end of the unit has been a clear weakness, and their latest unfortunate feat makes that abundantly clear.
