Giants miss out on trading for a quarterback they really wanted but it's for a respectful reason that makes sense

The New York Giants have one of the NFL's more interesting quarterback rooms when talking about the resumes and personalities of Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and Tommy DeVito.
Apparently, the Giants wanted said room to look a little different though.
Per FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz, the Giants were one of five teams interested in former New England Patriots quarterback Joe Milton, who was traded to the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday. The Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Las Vegas Raiders were the other interested teams.
Schultz added that the Cowboys won the sweepstakes because the Patriots wanted to send Milton to the team he desired most. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Pats sent Milton and a seventh-rounder in this year's draft to Cowboys in exchange for Dallas' fifth-round compensatory pick.
Milton really upped his stock around the league after he helped lead the Patriots to a 23-16 win over the Buffalo Bills in last year's regular season finale. He completed 75.9% of his passes for 241 yards and a touchdown. He also added 16 rushing yards and a touchdown. It's obviously just one game, but to put into context how well he played: His total QBR of 72.4 would've ranked fourth if he started the entire 2024 season.
The former Tennessee Volunteer was drafted in the sixth round of the 2024 draft and impressed coaches pretty much from the moment he walked into the building. However, with Joshua Dobbs now in the fold, it makes sense for the Patriots to take advantage of Milton's stock while it's high, as well as send him to a team that would make him their QB2, as opposed to his future QB3 status in New England.
It's interesting to wonder if either Winston, Wilson, or DeVito would be around if the Giants landed Milton. Either way, the situation unfolded the way it did and the Giants have two very experienced veterans, along with DeVito, to work with in 2025.
And, there's a chance another guy could get added to mix when the Giants pick third overall in the first round of the draft. Either way, the Giants are clearly looking to stock the QB room with as much talent as possible.
