Giants Training Camp: Saquon Barkley's epiphany saved New York's season

Training camp is probably the hardest part of the year for most teams, with the New York Giants being no exception.

The days are long, the rest is short, and the expectations are high.

So for one Giant star to show up and end the narrative, it took a little more than motivation:

Saquon Barkley: “I Had an Epiphany”

Saquon Barkley finally opened up to the media yesterday, and while he likely wanted to keep the topics specific to what was occurring on the field, surely he knew the questions would mostly be about what happened this offseason.

So when one reporter asked what made Barkley sign a one-year deal and show up to camp, Barkley answered the only way he knows how:

"I had an epiphany," said Barkley. "Me and my team felt like we were in good faith trying to get a deal done, the Giants felt like they were in good faith trying to get a deal done, and that's life. Sometimes you don’t come to an agreement. I had to come to a decision. Like I said, I had an epiphany. I had a mindset of what I was going to do, but I changed my mind."

And we will never know if Barkley would have actually played the holdout card, even if it was something he was strongly considering. We know Barkley loves the game and is as selfless a superstar as there in this league, evident by his want to get to camp when others in his exact position (Josh Jacobs) aren't even in the same state as their team.

So in the end, it's just good to have Saquon back on the field. He's already made highlight reel plays, and we haven't even had more than four hours of practice. He is obviously one of the league's most dynamic superstars, and a league without him is a less exciting one.

Giants fans can finally breathe, even if it took some serious brainstorming from their best player to do so.
