Former Super Bowl champion eyes the Giants in free agency
New York can take the defense to a new level with this signing.
The New York Giants already boast one of the best defensive lines in the NFL, thanks to Dexter Lawerence, Leonard Williams, and Kayvon Thibodeaux.
That didn't stop them from adding to the unit earlier in the week, signing a former Super Bowl champion to sure up depth.
Now it appears, they may be on the hunt for yet another.
Per Ian Rappoport of NFL Network, the Giants are set to meet with former Super Bowl champion and Rams defensive lineman A'Shawn Robinson.
Robinson took a step back in 2022, playing in only 10 games, but he's only one year removed from a 2021 campaign where he played every game and recorded 67 tackles, two forced fumbles, two sacks, and two tackles for loss.
A run stuffer, Robinson is a nose tackle that plugs holes in the middle of the line and eats up double teams as a two-gapping defensive tackle.
Sound familiar?
Dexter Lawrence is the epitome of that role, but his pass-rushing presence takes his play to a new height.
Robinson would be 28 years old when the season starts, meaning New York would acquire the veteran in the prime of his career, and potentially hold the title for the best defensive line in the NFL.
Now I know this may seem counterintuitive, but adding to strengths can actually minimize your weaknesses.
"What does that mean?"
While many want New York to acquire a corner, addressing the deficiencies on the backend, if they continue to add to their strength (the defensive line) it can mask the odor at the defensive back spot.
Perhaps the Giants are planning to address cornerback in the draft as well, with a slew of prospects slated to be there at pick 25.
In the meantime, they can take a page out of Philadelphia's book and create a defensive line that mimics the 2022 NFC Champions.
