Giants place starting linebacker Jarrad Davis on injured reserve

The New York Giants have had a very eventful 24-48 hours.

With camp on the horizon, many thought yesterday's fiasco cast a dark shadow over what should have been an optimistic start to the 2023 season.

But following today's news, things got even drearier for New York, especially when you consider that the proper precautions were not taken into account:

Giants Place Starting LB Jarrad Davis on Injured Reserve

Following an injury that occurred during offseason organized team activities, Giants veteran linebacker Jarrad Davis has been officially placed on injured reserve, per Adam Schefter of ESPN:

Davis was going to be one half of a starting duo that saw recently signed Bobby Okereke add to a unit that was underwhelming, to say the least in 2022.

And while no one can predict injury, and you can't say the Giants should have seen this coming, they still failed to prepare nonetheless.

New York made seven selections in the 2023 NFL draft, yet they used not one pick on a stacked linebacker. That was inconceivable to me, especially when you consider that Davis even if healthy was a practice squad player for the majority of last season.

But now he's not healthy, and what little production they were planning on receiving from the spot just dwindled even more.

And time will tell if John Michael Schmitz and Jalin Hyatt were appropriate selections. But when dynamic linebackers like Daiyan Henley and Drew Sanders were still on the board…

It's hard to not wonder if New York made the right choice.
