The New York Giants have received some positive news ahead of the Week 6 matchup against the Buffalo Bills.

Head coach Brian Daboll told reporters on Monday that the team is "optimistic" that Jones will be available to play on Sunday night (via ESPN's Adam Schefter).

Jones left Sunday's loss to the Miami Dolphins early after suffering a neck contusion according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. He added that it does not seem as severe as the one he suffered in 2021.

The Giants quarterback is reportedly scheduled to have an MRI on Monday to check on the severity of the injury.

NY Daily News Sports' Pat Leonard reported on Monday afternoon that while Daboll hasn't yet received the results of the x-rays or scans, there is still optimism regarding his status for Sunday.

Jones and the Giants have struggled this season, sitting in last place in the NFC East with a record of 1-4. New York's only win came over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2, but they are currently riding a three-game losing streak.

And now they have to go up against a tough Bills squad who are hungry for a win after losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

Jones was drafted by the Giants in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, and has proven himself during his time in New York. Prior to the 2023 season, he signed a four-year, $160 million contract.

He had his best season in 2022 prior to signing the massive contact, finishing with 317 completions for 3,205 yards and 15 touchdowns across 16 games. However, this season, he has 104 completions for 884 yards and two touchdowns in five games.

Turnovers have also not been kind to Jones this season, with the quarterback already having six interceptions, with is already more than he had throughout the entirety of last season (he had 5 in 2022).

If Jones is out, veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor is next up on the depth chart.

While Jones might not be performing his best so far this season, this is still good news for the Giants who will need their starting quarterback if they hope to turn this season around.
