Giants receive ultimate disrespect in national outlet's roster rankings
The New York Giants have dealt with outside noise all offseason when it comes to their projection for the 2023 season. The New York Giants have dealt with outside noise all offseason when it comes to their projection for the 2023 season.
Whether it be Daniel Jones, Saquon Barkley, or the deficiencies at key roster spots, the team can't seem to catch a break.
Well, in PFF's latest set of roster rankings, that trend continues but in the worst fashion yet. Let's dive into the ranking and see if we can make sense of things.
PFF ranked the Giants' roster at 23rd overall, which is utterly absurd in my opinion when you analyze the rosters in front of the Giants. Many of whom are teams that didn't even make the playoffs like last year including:
- Cleveland Browns (14)
- Washington Commanders (17)
- New England Patriots (18)
- New Orleans Saints (19)
- Denver Broncos (20)
- Las Vegas Raiders (21)
- Chicago Bears (22)
Say what you want about the teams atop the list, and others I didn't include like the Lions and Jaguars, but what world are we living in that the team who just traded out of the first overall pick in last month's draft (Chicago Bears) have a better roster than the New York Giants?
Maybe I'm missing something, but Chicago has more questions than answers at quarterback, and share similar concerns as the Giants when it comes to the offensive line, wide receiver room, linebacking corps, and secondary…but in a much worse way.
Now, it should be noted that Vegas isn't too high on the Giants either, setting their over/under win total for 2023 at 7.5 games. But PFF poured salt in that wound, predicting an under-total and saying:
The Giants are due for some regression to the mean. They finished 9-7-1 despite being the fourth-lowest-graded team in the NFL overall. They’re heavily reliant on the running game, and their back seven on defense has major question marks. A last-place finish in the NFC East wouldn’t be that shocking.
Really? Finishing behind the Commanders who (checks depth chart) are slated to start Sam Howell or Jacoby Brissett at quarterback wouldn't be shocking? Yea…it would, so much so that things would be headed for a change in New York if that does happen.
Regardless, New York will have their work cut out for them, and they still have offseason affairs like the Saquon situation lingering. But this is a young, hungry, and well-coached team, that plans on ascending, not descending in 2023.
Time will tell who comes out looking right in the end.
