The New York Giants were soundly thumped in the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football. And the performance was for the whole world to see during the primetime setting.

Aside from a solid opening drive that concluded in a blocked field goal returned for a touchdown, the Giants did not look like they belonged on the same field as the Cowboys. Dallas was simply better – way better – in every phase of the game.

Yet despite that, the Giants are still confident in what the team can accomplish this season. Head coach Brian Daboll realizes that his squad did not perform well. But it's a 17-game schedule, so one game doesn't define everything.

“Tough loss, disappointing loss. Got beat all the way around. No excuses," Daboll said following the team's 40-0 defeat to the hands of its division rival. "Yeah, we weren't playing well."

Leaders are always important for a team looking to compete and make noise. But leadership becomes even more crucial after a performance like the Giants just had in week one.

Fortunately, the Giants have veterans that know what it takes to bounce back from a loss. Pro Bowl running Saquon Barkley is confident that the Giants will put the loss behind them.

"Like I said, it's a long season," said Barkley after the game. "I'm not really worried about that gap. They got us. They came in and got the better of us. Made more plays. We didn't execute and now we get ready for Arizona."

The Giants have little time to waste. Up next is the Arizona Cardinals, who pushed the Washington Commanders to the final play in week one. Then, New York takes on the contending San Francisco 49ers right after.

There's no time to dwell in the NFL. The New York Giants seem to understand that and are eager to get the bad taste out of their mouths as quickly as possible.

"We're going to keep chopping, keep climbing. Be all right," Giants safety Xavier McKinney stated on Sunday evening.
