The New York Giants' OTAs got underway this week but there was a key player missing from the action.
New York's first-round draft pick, cornerback Deonte Banks, wasn't present at Tuesday's voluntary OTA session.
Banks, however, had a damn good reason for not attending on Tuesday.
The former Maryland standout wasn't at New York's OTAs on Tuesday because he was busy graduating.
Banks finished his degree in family sciences this spring and he attended his graduation on Tuesday.
Finishing a degree while prepping for the draft isn't an easy task. Banks, however, made it happen. And he should be recognized for his hard work and determination to finish his degree.
It would be easy for Banks to push his degree to the backburner — after all, he has first-round draft pick cash now — but he made sure to finish what he started at Maryland before immersing himself in the world of the NFL.
Banks is talented and he's clearly driven. He should fit in just fine in the ultra-competitive NFC East.
