When the New York Giants selected Dexter Lawrence with the 17th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, they thought they were getting an above-average starter.
But in the past few years, Lawrence has become one of the best defensive tackles in the game, earning a Pro Bowl nod and an All-Pro second-team nomination this past season.
Well, after some reluctance to show up to voluntary workouts citing a contract dispute, Lawrence and the Giants have officially come to terms.
Per Mike Garafolo of NFL Media, the Giants and Dexter Lawrence have agreed to a four-year contract extension that makes him one of the highest-paid defensive tackles in the NFL.
Adam Schefter of ESPN would then add some contract details, including the fact that Lawrence will be the third highest-paid defensive tackle in the league after agreeing to a four-year $90 million dollar contract with $60 million in guarantees.
Lawrence is coming off his best year as a pro, recording career highs in tackles (68), sacks (7.5), and tackle for losses (7), earning him his first-ever trip to the Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro honors.
The superstar defender is only 25 years old and will have the chance to test free agency again before he's 30, hopefully after continuing to be a pivotal player for the Giants in the prime of his career.
