Week 2 was a whirlwind for the New York Giants. In the first half against the Arizona Cardinals, they looked outclassed and embarrassingly bad once again. That led to a 28-7 deficit.
Luckily, there are four quarters in an NFL game, and the Giants did not give up on themselves. They clawed back, eventually taking the lead on a Graham Gano field goal.
New York won by a score of 31-28 but suffered a scary loss during the comeback. Star running back Saquon Barkley suffered an apparent lower leg injury, and he was noticeably hobbling on the sideline. Of course, folks assume the worst in this scenario.
Now, we know his specific injury. Barkley suffered a sprained ankle in the Giants' win over the Cardinals, and the timetable for his return is unknown as of now.
For the Giants and Barkley, it is a bit of a sigh of relief. The injury certainly could have been more severe. The Giants star RB tore his ACL in 2021.
All that being said, Barkley is too important to the offense to rush back from this type of injury. Ankle sprains can be re-aggravated, and the Giants play their Week 3 matchup on on Thursday night. It is tough to see him playing in that matchup, but only time will tell.
