The New York Giants have one of the best young defensive linemen in the NFL in Dexter Lawrence. Unfortunately, 2023 is the last season that he is under contract for New York as of right now.
That was also the case for Tennessee Titans defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons until this past week. Simmons landed a massive four-year, $94 million contract with impressive guaranteed money in $66 million.
For Lawrence, he definitely sees this deal get done by Simmons and Tennessee.
It creates a bit more pressure for New York to get an extension done with him – if they choose to do so, of course.
Lawrence is still just 25 years old. He can be a cornerstone for the Giants defense for the foreseeable future if he receives an extension.
Now, there is one thing to keep in mind, though.
Simmons plays a bit of a different role than Lawrence. Simmons rushes from the outside a bit more often than Lawrence, as Lawrence plays a bit more of a nose tackle role at times compared to Simmons.
Regardless, both are impact defensive linemen. Expect Lawrence's deal to have plenty of similarities to this newly-signed one in Tennessee.
The only question is whether or not it will be with the Giants.
