One of the lesser talked about positions on the New York Giants' defense is nickel, AKA slot corner.

A position that sees increasing importance year to date, New York has a careful decision on their hands this fall.

So with that in mind, here's a preview of the Giants' positional battle at nickel:

The Starter: Darnay Holmes

While Holmes approaches camp as the favorite, seeing as he's been the team's best option at nickel over the past few years, that may not last much longer.

Holmes is still spry at only 25, but he has been inconsistent during his tenure in New York and unlike the man we will be highlighting next, he carries a cap hit of nearly $3 million dollars in 2023. That's something that could be used as leverage against him when it comes time to trim the roster.

Flott is only approaching his second year in the league, but the 22-year-old showed promise in the reps he had on defense last season. Seeing as he was brought in by the new regime, has less tread on his tires, and would save nearly $1.75 million in cap space, Flott may earn the starting role if he has a strong camp.
