The New York Giants need more ball production in 2023.

That means they need better play from their secondary, particularly at strong safety.

And after acquiring some free agents, and developing draft picks, they're hoping the position takes the leap they need.

Belton is approaching his second year with the Giants, hoping to build off the 15-game appearance that proved him valuable during his rookie season.

Belton wasn't known for being a ball-hawk when coming out of Iowa, as he is more of a traditional box safety. That may hurt him when comparing him to his competition, but if Belton proves to have added range to his game during camp, he may come out on top.

The Veteran Addition: Bobby McCain

McCain was brought in this offseason to compete with Belton for the starting position. He has both experience and ball production on his side, something that evades Belton's skillset.

Six interceptions as a defense simply won't cut it again, meaning that although McCain is longer the tooth and wasn't drafted by New York, he may be their best bet in 2023 given his track record.

If nothing else, he's the more expensive of the two and would be a waste of cap space if he doesn't see the field.
