Rivalries are always exciting during the NFL season. Sometimes, those division rivalries carry over into the off-season. For example, the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles had a bit of a contest right after the draft.

Undrafted free agent wide receiver Bryce Ford-Wheaton had interest from both teams, but he ultimately chose a deal from the Giants over Philly.

Ford-Wheaton also got a phone call from the Seattle Seahawks. The young wideout compared it to recruiting, and he is completely right about that. The UDFA process is hectic and aggressive.

He chose to sign with the New York Giants mainly because of the bond he built with head coach Brian Daboll before the draft. They had a great meeting and discussion about a potential role for him. Ford-Wheaton also has a friendship with Giants wide receiver David Sills.

The WR discussed his decision to join the Giants.

“I talked to (Daboll) for a long time… My phone was blowing up while I was on the phone with him. I was sending everybody else to voicemail because in my head I was already like, ‘This is where I want to go.'”

“I already felt good about the Giants, because I had already met them… I had already learned a couple installs with them and kind of got tested. The determining factor was I had David Sills, one of my old teammates, up there. He’s done what I’m trying to do right now.”

The Giants signed Ford-Wheaton to a contract worth $236,000 guaranteed. It also included a $20,000 signing bonus. That's on the high side for UDFA contracts. They believe he will vie for a roster spot as a depth wide receiver.
