The New York Giants’ head coaching search is at a peak frenzy, as fans are fantasizing over the potential options to lead the franchise.

Two recent developments appear to indicate who the Giants will be hiring soon. One comes from SNY’s Connor Hughes, and the other from a viral moment at the Fiesta Bowl this past Thursday.

Will the Giants land John Harbaugh?

According to Hughes, the race to land Harbaugh is coming down to two teams: the Giants and the Falcons. Not surprisingly, both jobs are considered among the best available because of the young cores each franchise has.

Hughes also indicated that the consolation prize of this racing is hiring former Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski. Considering that before Harbaugh was fired, Stefanski was the top option in New York, that would be an ideal outcome.

After most of the Wild Card Round games, one major domino appears to have fallen in the Giants’ favor. Despite the Green Bay Packers blowing a huge lead to the Chicago Bears, Matt LaFleur will be staying, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Had the Packers’ job opened up, that could have been an incredibly enticing opportunity for Harbaugh to jump at. Although Harbaugh’s possible move to Green Bay would also have put another decorated head coach on the market for the Giants to pursue with LaFleur.

Jaxson Dart gave away who the Giants are hiring

In case you missed it, on Thursday night during Ole Miss’ game against Miami in the College Football Playoff, Dart was caught on camera mouthing that Harbaugh or Stefanski would be the next coach. This aligns with Hughes’ report on Monday morning that it’s coming down to the two experienced coaches.

The main positive takeaway from the recent developments of this search is that the Giants have a number of enticing options. Before the 2025 season ended, it appeared this would be an underwhelming coaching cycle with few home run options. Once Stefanski and Harbaugh were on the table, it was clear who New York needed to go after.

Most importantly, it’s massive that the final push is coming down to either coach. Both coaches sound like they’re intrigued by what the Giants offer. Now it all comes down to how effectively general manager Joe Schoen can close. Hopefully, he doesn’t bungle this like he’s done with past franchise-altering situations.
