Giants rookie QB Jaxson Dart wins prestigious award that could foreshadow an NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year run
New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart just earned a massive award in his first month as the starter.
New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart is off to an incredible start to his NFL career. Despite multiple injuries to key offensive starters, the young gunslinger has generated countless highlights, incited multiple upsets, and overall provided hope to a fan base desperately needing it.
After an incredible October, Dart was recognized as the Offensive Rookie of the Month in the NFL.
Jaxson Dart wins Offensive Rookie of the Month
Since taking over in Week 4, Dart has had the best season of any rookie quarterback. In October alone, Dart totalled seven passing touchdowns, three rushing touchdowns, 873 passing yards, and 141 rushing yards. He also upset the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football, which further thrust him into the national spotlight.
The last Giants rookie to earn the award was wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in 2014, when he won the award twice in November and December. Other notable Giants offensive players to earn the award include wide receiver Hakeem Nicks and tight end Jeremy Shockey.
The significance of Dart winning the award is that it has paved the way for him to finish the year as Offensive Rookie of the Year if he continues at his current pace. Statistically, Dart isn’t putting up otherworldly numbers, but because of his impact on a team with limited offensive weapons, he’s earning recognition for elevating his teammates. Understandably, the award typically goes to quarterbacks because of the spotlight placed on them, which could help them beat out other rookies like Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka and Carolina Panthers wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan.
The Giants have had two offensive rookies win OROY: Saquon Barkley in 2018 and Odell Beckham Jr. in 2014. There’s still a long way to go until the end of the 2025 season, but Dart is off to a fantastic start to join Barkley and Beckham Jr. The fact that Dart was recognized for this award in his first real month as the starter is proof of his potential in the NFL.
New York’s upcoming schedule will have multiple challenges that Dart will need to step up to. Now that the offense is without Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo, it will require even more from Dart to carry the load. After they face the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday, they have matchups with the Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, and Washington Commanders in November.
