The Jets and Tanzel Smart just seem to go together.

Just over a week ago, the Jets cut the defensive tackle and star of HBO's Hard Knocks in a move to create a roster spot for a second kicker.  The Jets starting kicker Greg Zuerlein was out with a groin injury and the Jets had to shuffle the roster to bring in a replacement.

Smart was the odd man out on the practice squad and I speculated at the time that it was likely a handshake agreement between Smart and the Jets that he would return once there was no longer a need for a second kicker on the team.

The 6'1" Smart first signed with New York in 2020 and spent the last three seasons on and off the team's practice squad and appeared in 6 games. Smart was originally drafted by the Rams in the sixth round in 2017 out of Tulane and has 29 career tackles in 37 games.

He spent the summer with the Jets and was a final cut before he rejoined the practice squad.

For his part, Seibert did everything the Jets asked of him in his limited action.  He made a 34-yard field goal and added an extra point in the Jets' week two loss to the Cowboys.

The Jets also elevated OL Chris Glaser to the active roster for Sunday's game against the Chiefs.

Glaser signed with New York last August after spending time with the Kansas City Chiefs. He signed with Kansas City as an undrafted free agent out of Virginia in 2022.

The Jets released Glaser during final cuts and re-signed him to the practice squad last season. He was then released Sept. 21.  He played both right and left guard for the Chiefs.

The Jets face their toughest opponent so far this season with defending champs coming into town for the Jets second prime time game of the season, and their first game on Sunday Night Football in 12 years.

Jets add veteran QB Trevor Siemian

Jets fans who wanted the team to add a veteran QB to the fold have finally gotten their wish.  Kind of. Veteran quarterback Trevor Siemian is signing with the Jets, pending a physical, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.   Siemian played for the Jets in 2019.  He was not good.  He went three for six […]
