Jets lose Alijah Vera-Tucker for the second year in a row

One day after the Jets were able to hammer out their second win of the season against the Denver Broncos by a final of 31-21, gang green found out that they suffered a loss bigger than the game.
Star offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker confirmed in an MRI today that he tore his Achilles and will be out for the rest of the year.
“It’s a blow. I feel bad for him. He battled his way back this offseason from injury a year ago and to have this happen again, it's unfortunate." Robert Saleh said in speaking with the media on Monday.
Vera-Tucker tore his triceps in a game against the same Denver Broncos last season which kept him out for the rest of the year. In a unfortunate dose of déjà vu, the Jets will again leave Denver without AVT for the rest of the season.
AVT, who started the season at guard and moved out to right tackle when Duane Brown went on injured reserve, was one of the steadier performers along the shaky Jets offensive line. The Jets seemed to be coming out of their offensive line issues with rookie Joe Tippmann taking over the guard spot vacated by Vera-Tucker in week three.
How the Jets will move on from here along the offensive line is anyone’s guess. As of right now, Robert Saleh is playing his cards close to the chest. Max Mitchell replaced Vera-Tucker for the second half of the Bronco’s game, but the Jets also have Billy Turner on the roster.
Carter Warren, whom the Jets drafted this year out of Pitt is eligible to come off the IR but Robert Saleh says Warren still has a long way to go.
What could be most interesting is what happens when Duane Brown returns. As of now, Brown is on IR until at least week eight (the Jets have their bye in week seven). Will Brown reclaim his spot at left tackle and move Becton back to the right side or has Becton done enough to retain the left tackle spot.
Brown has never played anywhere on the offensive line except left tackle, and I imagine that right tackle won’t be in the cards for him.
The loss of Vera-Tucker for the second straight season is a tough pill to swallow for the Jets who might have finally started to find some rhythm at least on the offensive line. The Jets welcome the reigning NFC Champions, the Philadelphia Eagles this week in a game that will definitely test their offensive line.
The most important players the Jets can’t afford to lose
When Aaron Rodgers signed with the New York Jets, it wasn’t the only team that would take the 39-year-old quarterback. He had options and he chose the Jets because of their coaches and their young players. Rodgers is the most important player to wear a Jets uniform in years, perhaps decades. With the ineptitude we […]
