Latest Jaxson Dart injury update will disappoint Giants fans as New York prepares for Patriots matchup
Interim HC Mike Kafka supplied another update on rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart’s progress
The New York Giants have been without their rookie quarterback, Jaxson Dart, for the last two games. The latest update on his recovery from his concussion will disappoint fans.
According to interim head coach Mike Kafka, Dart is still in the concussion protocol as the team prepares to face the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football.
“Jaxson, he’s still in the protocol, but he’ll get some work out there today with the group,” Kafka told reporters. “I’m looking forward to that, just like similar to what he did last week.”
Jaxson Dart is still in concussion protocol
Dart left the Giants’ Week 1o loss to the Chicago Bears early due to a concussion and has not returned since. Concussions are a complicated injury with a dangerous potential if they’re not treated properly. Therefore, the Giants’ medical staff’s care is entirely understandable.
You’ll sometimes see football players return the same week after sustaining a concussion, and in other cases, they could be out for an extended period of time, as in Dart’s instance. Additionally, Dart being in the protocol hasn’t impacted his ability to practice recently.
Last week, he participated in practice and was later ruled out at the last minute. His status of still being in the protocol does not mean he won’t play against the Patriots. According to Kafka, Dart will be out at practice again this week.
“Yeah, we had the same plan that we had last week,” Kafka said. “We’ll kind of carry that into this week and then just really see what ends up happening throughout the process with Jaxson being in the protocol.”
Additionally, given the controversy sparked by former head coach Brian Daboll running into the medical tent in Week 6 to check on a concussion scare, the slow process makes even more sense. While it might not be tied to Dart’s actual health, the organization may be urging caution amid a lost season.
Ultimately, this whole ordeal should serve as additional motivation for Dart to be more willing to slide and avoid contact in the future. It was a controversial topic during Dart’s stellar play that he wasn’t attempting to avoid contact. Having missed two games and potentially a third, he should have had enough time to reflect on how he needs to transform his playing style.
Despite Dart being unavailable, the Giants have had surprisingly solid play from backup quarterback Jameis Winston. In their losses to the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions, he’s thrown for 567 yards, two touchdowns with two picks, and a miraculous viral receiving touchdown.
Hopefully, Dart is available for Monday because Giants fans are clamoring to see their future star back and healthy.
