The latest Giants injury news is devastating for New York’s offense just as it was showing signs of life from Jaxson Dart’s debut
The New York Giants received devastating news regarding Malik Nabers knee injury that he suffered before their Week 5 game against the New Orleans Saints.
As anticipated, the New York Giants are losing star second-year wide receiver Malik Nabers for the rest of the 2025 season. The MRI on Nabers’ knee revealed that he tore his ACL against the Los Angeles Chargers, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
New York Giants officially lose WR Malik Nabers
Yesterday’s victory over the Chargers fueled significant optimism among Giants fans that the 2025 season could be redeemed. Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart’s debut stoked the ashes of a dead offense that desperately needed momentum.
However, that excitement for Dart’s performance is dampened by the incredibly depressing news that they’ll be without Nabers for the rest of 2025. Nabers appeared excited to build chemistry with Dart and was off to a solid start. Through three games, Nabers had totalled 271 yards, 18 receptions, and two touchdowns with a 15.6 yards per reception average.
Nabers was quickly becoming a star, not just in New York but throughout the league. His 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie were proof he could boost the Giants’ passing game, regardless of who was at quarterback.
Now, Giants head coach Brian Daboll has a daunting challenge ahead of him. Without Nabers, the Giants’ receiving options are disturbingly weak. The next active leading receiver is Wan’Dale Robinson, who exploded against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 for 142 yards.
Outside of Robinson, the only other receiver with over 100 yards is team captain Darius Slayton with 135. Shockingly, the Giants don’t have another wide receiver who has even registered a catch outside of Slayton, Robinson, and Nabers. They’ll need to pray that players lower on the depth chart can contribute.
The remaining stragglers in the Giants’ receiving room include Jalin Hyatt, Beaux Collins, and Gunner Olszewski. Considering the lack of quality options in that list of have-nots, the Giants will need to consider making a trade or signing a veteran off the street.
Some available free agents worth considering include Dionte Johnson, Roberts Woods, Odell Beckham Jr., Nelson Agholor, D.J. Chark, and Michael Gallup. A reunion with Beckham Jr. may not take the Giants offense over the top, but it could serve as a rallying point for the fan base.
Until then, New York will likely need to continue leaning on its run game, with impactful plays by Dart and running back Cam Skattebo.
