The national media isn't giving the New York Giants much of a chance in the NFC East in 2023.

To be fair, they aren't giving the Dallas Cowboys or Washington Commanders much of a chance either.

Nope, the national media is all in on the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023. After watching the Eagles cruise to the Super Bowl last season, it seems that everyone in the media thinks it's automatic that they'll do the same this season.

The Giants will be looking to prove the national media wrong in 2023.

No one has repeated as NFC division champs in nearly 20 years. The odds aren't exactly in the Eagles' favor.

If the Giants are going to be a threat to the Eagles in the NFC East, they'll need to upgrade their pass rush. According to NFL.com, adding another pass rusher should be the Giants' biggest remaining offseason priority.

From NFL.com: Kayvon Thibodeaux and Azeez Ojulari form a spicy duo along the edge, but the latter missed 10 games a year ago. Thibodeaux morphed into a monster down the stretch, but also lost three starts to injury. There's a lot to like, but general manager Joe Schoen would be wise to add a veteran to round out an inexperienced group. Outside linebacker was ignored both in the draft and free agency beyond re-upping with Jihad Ward. Expect Big Blue to add a body.

Veteran pass rusher Justin Houston is still a free agent and he would make a lot of sense for the Giants. Houston isn't the same guy that once totaled 22 sacks in a season, but the 34-year-old can still be an effective pass rusher (he totaled 9.5 sacks last season for hte Baltimore Ravens). Houston played under Giants defensive coordinator Don Martindale in 2021 in Baltimore, so there's some familiarity there.

The Chicago Bears, who also have some connections to Houston via general manager Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus, could also be interested in the veteran pass rusher. So if the Giants are seriously interested in adding Houston to their roster, they'll need to act quickly.

Fortunately for the Giants, New York should be a more attractive option for Houston as the Bears aren't expected to compete for a playoff spot in 2023.
